Nは V辞書形+ことです
We studied "できます" last time.
At that time, we learned that " V辞書形+こと" is a noun.
Today we are going to cover the sentence pattern " NはV辞書形+ことです".
In the sentence pattern " N1はN2です," when you want to use a verb instead of a noun for the N2 part, the verb should be in the form " V辞書形+こと".
N=noun, V=verb
e.g. わたしの趣味は野球を見ることです。
わたしのしゅみは やきゅうを みることです。
I like watching baseball. (My hobby is watching baseball.)
e.g. 田中さんの趣味は本を読むことです。
たなかさんのしゅみは ほんを よむことです。
Mr. Tanaka likes reading books. (Mr. Tanaka's hobby is reading books.)
e.g. わたしの夢は中国で働くことです。
わたしのゆめは ちゅうごくで はたらくことです。
I would like to work in China in the future. (My dream is to work in China.)
e.g. チンさんの夢は家族と日本に住むことです。
チンさんのゆめはかぞくとにほんにすむことです。
Mr. Chin would like to live in Japan with his family in the future.
（Mr. Chin's dream is to live in Japan with his family.）

N／V辞書形（Vじしょform）+こと ができます
Today, we are going to study "できます".
"できます" is a verb that expresses a person has the ability to do something or whether the action or behavior is possible under the specific situation.
It is like "can" or "be able to" in English.
The object of "できます" is indicated with the particle "が".
＜Nができます＞
If the object is a noun, the form is "noun +が+できます.″
e.g. わたしはテニスができます。 （ability）
I can play tennis.
e.g. 田中さんはドイツ語ができます。 （ability）
たなかさんは ドイツご ができます。
Mr. Tanaka can speak German.
e.g. わたしは料理ができません。（ability）
わたしは りょうりが できません。
I can’t cook.
e.g. このホテルでテニスができます。（possibility, allowed）
You can play tennis at this hotel./ It is possible to play tennis at this hotel.
e.g. この公園でサッカーができますか。（possibility, allowed）
このこうえんでサッカーができますか。
Can I play soccer in this park? / Is it possible to play soccer in this park?
e.g. インターネットでチケットの予約ができます。 （possibility, allowed）
インターネットで チケットのよやくが できます。
Tickets can be booked online.
e.g. この公園では花火ができません。 （possibility, allowed）
このこうえんでは はなびが できません。
Fireworks are not allowed in this park.
＜V辞書形+ことができます＞
When the object is a verb, the form " V辞書形（Vじしょform）+ことができます" is used.
Since "が" is a particle, it is not allowed to be preceded by a verb.
By adding "こと" to V辞書形, verbs turn into nouns.
e.g. わたしはピアノを弾くことができます。 （ability）
わたしはピアノをひくことができます。
I can play the piano.
e.g. 木村さんは一人で着物を着ることできます。 （ability）
きむらさんは ひとりで きものを きることが できます。
Ms. Kimura can wear a kimono by herself.
e.g. わたしは自転車に乗ることができません。（ability）
わたしは じてんしゃに のることが できません。
I cannot ride a bicycle.
e.g. この店でパソコンを買うことができます。（possibility, allowed）
このみせでパソコンをかうことができます。
You can buy a PC at this store.
e.g. 新幹線の中から富士山を見ることができます。（possibility, allowed）
しんかんせんのなかから ふじさんを みることが できます。
It is possible to see Mt. Fuji from a bullet train.
e.g. あそこで本を借りることができます。 （possibility, allowed）
あそこでほんをかりることができます。
You can borrow books there.
e.g. この本を借りることができますか。 （possibility, allowed）
このほんをかりることができますか。
Can I borrow this book?
e.g. 病院ではクレジットカードを使うことができません。 （possibility, allowed）
びょういんでは クレジットカードを つかうことができません。
You cannot use a credit card at the hospital.
